According to Orville Goldner in the book 'The Making of King Kong', Charles Gemora, who played the ape in this picture, tried to take credit for playing the original King Kong.
Lois Laurel, cast as an uncredited audience member in the circus, is Stan Laurel's real-life daughter.
Stan calls the escaped circus lion "MGM", a comic reference to the lion that introduced the Metro-Goldwyn Mayer movies. Hal Roach distributed the Laurel and Hardy films at this time through MGM.
