This picture was one of fifty Australian films selected for preservation as part of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia's Kodak / Atlab Cinema Collection Restoration Project.
The opening week attendances at the State Theatre, Sydney broke a 37-year record for the theatre. The scenes of Nino being rescued from the surf were filmed from a duck (amphibious vehicle) borrowed from the Australian Army.
Alida Chelli was the girlfriend of leading man Walter Chiari and almost didn't get the part because she was thought to be too glamorous and might have upstaged female lead Claire Dunne.
