The Blob Overview:

The Blob (1958) was a Science Fiction - Horror Film directed by Irvin Yeaworth and Russell S. Doughten Jr. and produced by Jack H. Harris and Russell S. Doughten Jr..

SYNOPSIS

One of the quintessential films for lovers of those science-fiction/horror/monster/camp films of the '50s. A gigantic, gooey glob arrives from outer space and proceeds to terrorize a small town. The more it eats, the more it grows. Local teenagers, who have witnessed its obscene display of hunger, are ignored until it's too late. Can the local bad boy (McQueen, in his first leading role) save his 'burb from the sinister slime - and reform himself in the process? Great late-night viewing, but save the Jell-O for later. Remade in 1988.
