This box-office failure was the last credited movie for the renowned, innovative director, screenwriter and occasional producer Gregory La Cava, who had begun working in the film industry as an animator in 1916.
This musical (which can be labeled a semi-musical) marked the second and last time that Gene Kelly would sing and dance in a black-and-white vehicle. Gene's previous monochromatic musical had been his debut picture, For Me and My Gal.
