Tom Winters: You're hardly my idea of the faithful old family retainer, but you've got to stay. They want you. I've lost touch...

Angelo Donatello: Did you make up your mind about the boat? You wanna rent, do you wanna buy, you wanna make a deal?
Tom Winters: It's a leaky, broken down soggy derelict that'll probably sink and dump us all into the river --- but I wouldn't think of living any other place. Yeh, I'll make a deal.

Carolyn Gibson: Who's Cinzia?
Elizabeth Winters: Cinzia's our maid. She doesn't know how to cook.
Carolyn Gibson: So I see. Where's your father?
Elizabeth Winters: Oh, he's doing the laundry for the weekend at the laundromat. We have to bring the clothes there becaue Cinzia doesn't know how to wash.

Facts about

Cary Grant initially accepted his role in Houseboat (1958) because he was dating Sophia Loren, whom he was madly in love with. After she married someone else, Grant, heartbroken, wanted to back out. He couldn't, but the director made sure the production was a smooth one.
Original screenplay was written by Betsy Drake, Cary Grant's wife. Grant originally wanted it to star her but his extra-marital affair with Sophia Loren complicated the project. Drake's script was drastically re-written by two other writers to accommodate Loren and bears little resemblance to Drake's concept.
Parts of the movie, Houseboat, were filmed in Fort Washington, Maryland on the Potomac River and Piscataway Creek at the present site of Fort Washington marina.
