The painting of Gene Tierney over the fireplace is, of course, the famous portrait of her from the black-and-white noir classic Laura. It is the only opportunity to see the legendary painting in color.
This was the third film to be based on the 1934 stage play "The Red Cat" by Hans Adler. In 1934 Fox studio chief Darryl F. Zanuck financed a brief Broadway run (13 performances) of the play so he could acquire the movie rights to it. The first film version of the play was Folies-Bergère, starring Maurice Chevalier in the dual leading role. The film was remade as That Night in Rio, with Don Ameche in the dual leading role, and Carmen Miranda as his former girlfriend. In this film Danny Kaye does impressions of Chevalier and Miranda, the stars of the two previous films.
