Attended Temple University and graduated in 1943 with a B.A. in education. He also studied voice at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music.
Before his death (suicide) he had been fighting bladder cancer and several other ailments.
Father of musician Mark Andes, member at different times of pop bands Spirit, Jo Jo Gunne, and Heart. Father of Matt Andes. Grandfather of Ryan.
Father William Andes was a lawyer.
Had two sons by his first marriage: Mark and Matt
In the 1970s he semi-retired and ran charter boats to Catalina and Mexico from the Los Angeles area.
Kept Arabian horses on a 3-acre ranch in Chatsworth, California.
