Prior to release, title was briefly changed to The Way The Ball Bounces before reverting back to Tall Story, name of play on which it was based.

The original stage production of "Tall Story" by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse opened at the Belasco Theater in New York on January 29, 1959 and ran for 108 performances.
