Although Clark Gable tells Carroll Baker that he is 44, he was in fact 57 at the time of filming.

During filming Clark Gable gave an interview in which he announced that he had realized that he had become too old to play romantic leading roles, and would be looking for different parts from then on. Ironically, his next film was It Started in Naples, a romantic comedy opposite the much younger Sophia Loren.

The film proved to be a complete failure at the box office. This was largely blamed on the casting of Carroll Baker, since she was not yet established as a major star.

The film's original title was "Accent on Youth", but this was thought inappropriate for the 57-year-old star Clark Gable.
