Laugh your ass off with some of the funniest movies ever made by Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy, Charley Chase and Snub Pollard. These silent classics were all made during the Golden Age of Comedy in the 1920's.
FREE ADMISSION!!! ***After the show, members can meet at Applebee's for drinks and /or food. It is located south of the library on Hwy 111 right before you get to the river. Address is 71740 Hwy 111 in Rancho Mirage.
Live musical accompaniment will be provided by the PHOTOPLAY ENSEMBLE. This ensemble group specializes in authentic live music and live sound effects for silent movie presentations. Experience the movie the way it was originally intended to be seen-with authentic live music and live sound effects.
Christopher Perry, musical director for the Photoplay Ensemble, arranges the scores for silent movies by using the original silent movie music cues that were written for silent films.
The sound effects will be provided by the "Mad Doctor of Sound Effects" Henry Lozano. The sound effects will be created with mechanical devices-the same way they were created in the silent film era.
The PHOTOPLAY ENSEMBLE has performed and produced silent movie shows at the El Portal Theater in Hollywood, The William S. Hart Estate, 2002 and 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Show, the Black Tie Gala at the Riverside Film Festival, and the California Museum of Photography.
Before the show and at intermission, hand-tinted movie theater glass slides from the silent era will be projected.
The film will be introduced by film historian Christopher Perry. This presentation is produced by THE DESERT CLASSIC FILM SOCIETY.
