GONE WITH THE WIND: REEL TO REAL EXHIBITION
The exhibition Gone With the Wind: Reel to Real, commemorates the 75th anniversary of one of the most talked about films ever made. The popular exhibition relives the magic of the iconic novel and film through artifacts and memorabilia. Gone With the Wind: Reel to Real features original gowns, costumes and artifacts of the film, and is derived entirely from one collector, James L. Tumblin, who has the largest privately-held collection of memorabilia from the film. See below for programming information.  

September 10, 2014: Windy Wednesday Trivia Night 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

September 13, 2014: Straight Talk – A Reel to Real Discussion about Gone With the Wind and Its Influence on Pop Culture 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. 
Join moderator Dr. Robert Cassanello (UCF) and panelists Julian Chambliss (Rollins College), Barbara Thompson (UCF Office of Diversity and Inclusion), Maylen Dominguez (Full Sail University), and Sharon Fletcher Jones (Central Florida Association of Black Journalists) for a discussion about the stereotypes portrayed in the 1939 “Gone With the Wind” film, and how popular culture continues to affect our impression of different types of people and cultures.
 Topics of discussion will include:    
 
• Scarlett O’Hara, the film’s protagonist, a true Southern Belle
• Rhett Butler, a dashing and outcast bachelor who is “not the marrying kind”
• Mammy, Scarlett’s nurse and “head woman of the plantation”
• African American roles and perceptions in the movie industry

September 27, 2014: Smithsonian Day
Doors open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Everybody loves a freebie! Join us Saturday, September 27 for Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live! Anyone holding a Museum Day Live ticket will enjoy free admission for themselves and one other person to participating museums across the country, including the History Center. October 15, 2014: Windy Wednesday Date Night – Movie Screening of The Making of a Legend: Gone With the Wind

November 2, 2014: Casting of Scarlett O’Hara Film Brunch 
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Enjoy brunch while viewing “The Scarlett O’Hara War,” which goes behind the scenes of the casting of Vivien Leigh. Price: $10 for members, $25 for non-members.

November 9, 2014: At the Movies – Gone With the Wind
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The History Center has teamed up with the Enzian to celebrate “Gone With the Wind’s” 75th anniversary. Enjoy a special screening of the 1939 film based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel at the Enzian November 9 at 11 a.m. A preshow talk will examine some interesting facts about the film, and the history behind the special collection. Tickets: $10.
