Harried Crimeways magazine editor-in-chief George Stroud (Ray Milland) is forced to call off his oft-delayed honeymoon in order to lead an investigation into the murder of his boss's girlfriend. The trouble is, the number one suspect in the case is Stroud himself. As the evidence mounts against him, he must search for the identity of the true killer while evading the police in this oddly claustrophobic and suspenseful noir from director John Farrow. Featuring a masterfully menacing performance by the multi-talented and incomparable Charles Laughton as Stroud's publisher, Earl Janoth, the film also sports an astoundingly good supporting cast and was gorgeously shot by DOUBLE INDEMNITY and SUNSET BOULEVARD cinematographer and master of the noir aesthetic, John F. Seitz.
