September is drawing near its close, so it is high time for us to announce our annual blogathon, The Great Breening Blogathon! Four years ago, this was the first blogathon we ever hosted! Since then, we have hosted it every year around October 14, Joseph I. Breen's birthday. Despite the fact that about four blogathons are being hosted the week of the 14th this year, we are hosting this blogathon for the fourth time in 2020 in honor of what would have been his 132nd birthday. We can't let Mr. Breen's birthday go unrecognized!

This year, the celebration is called The 4th Annual Great Breening Blogathon! The dates are October 12-14, Monday through Wednesday. We chose the earlier part of the week to avoid conflicting earlier announced for the weekend. Click the links below to see the entries in the last four years of the celebration.

The rules for this year's blogathon are very similar to last year's. However, we've simplified it even further. Instead of also including reviews to Code films, we are strictly focusing on breening un-Code films. After all, it is the Great Breening Blogathon! We also are allowing tributes to Joseph Breen and his life, since this blogathon is in his honor.

If you want to try your hand at breening, the Production Code Administration's unique process of self-regulation which we imitate in Breening Thursday articles, this is your chance! Choose an un-Code film, that means a movie which was not made in America between July 1934 and 1954. Then, watch it and try to determine what elements would have been different if it had been made during the American Breen Era. How would it have been changed to become a Code film? Note: Films which we or guest writers have already breened are ineligible as topics, since each film can only be breened once.
