A group of outlaws capture a marshal who, they believe, holds the secret in their pursuit of hidden gold, protected by ancient Apache spirits. Most of the film was photographed on 65mm stock, known as Super Panavision 70, and the soundtrack includes original music by soul legend Quincy Jones. Featured in the impressive ensemble cast is Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif, Telly Savalas, Ted Cassidy, and Julie Newmar. Clint Eastwood was originally offered the role of Marshal Mackenna, but turned it down to create Hang 'Em High (1968), and the role was given to Peck.
