About the book:  He penned songs such as Witchcraft and The Best Is Yet to Come (signature tunes for Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, respectively) and wrote such musicals as Sweet Charity, I Love My Wife, On the Twentieth Century, and The Will Rogers Follies yet his life has gone entirely unexplored until now. You Fascinate Me So takes readers into the world and work of Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winning composer/performer Cy Coleman, exploring his days as a child prodigy in the 1930s, his time as a hot jazz pianist and early television celebrity in the 1950s, and his life as one of Broadways preeminent composers. This first-time biography of Coleman has been written with the full cooperation of his estate, and it is filled with previously unknown details about his body of work. Additionally, interviews with colleagues and friends, including Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Ken Howard, Michele Lee, James Naughton, Bebe Neuwirth, Hal Prince, Chita Rivera, and Tommy Tune, provide insight into Colemans personality and career.

  1. Carl says:

There are lots of great interpreters of these classics songs My favorites tend to be people who do it a little differently and give the song a new feel, like Ella Fitzgerald, K.D. Lang, and, believe it or not, Elvis Costello. Thanks for another chance to win this great book.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Ella is my all-time fav!!! Really like Costello too, but can’t recall what Cy song he did??? and how the heck I missed it! 🙂

  2. Joan O'Malley says:

My favs are Barbra Streisand for her amazing vocals and Michel Buble’ for his ability to evoke the past but with a current twist.

  3. Luis De Lacerda says:

One of my favorite pop standards of all times is Nat ‘King’ Cole. I love the way he sings and his piano playing. The other one is the amazing Dinah Washington,

  4. Steve Shapiro says:

Mel Torme because of his amazing velvety tone alongside his impeccable phrasing.

  5. What comes to mind is Kristin Chenoweth whose “My Funny Valentine” is lovely on her album Let Yourself Go. She sings a variety of styles but is always so precise in her diction and singing. Other songs on that album are standards like “Hanging Around with You.” Very fun.

  6. Annmarie Gatti says:

This is a manual entry for Nathan who couldn’t post:

“For me it’s Frank Sinatra. Besides being a great interpreter of songs, he put out some fantastic concept albums, starting in the 50s.”

  7. Annmarie Gatti says:

Congratulations to our two winners — Joan and Luis!
