  1. Julie Moon says:

James Dean, and the other young stars, were mesmerizing. It was a groundbreaking film in attempting to show how the youth of America were in trouble – emotionally confused and acting out in unacceptable ways.

  2. Gloria Elizabeth says:

I’ll be traveling the week this is showing, so I’m not posting to enter the contest, but I decided instead to post a thank you to you, Annemarie, and to everyone who makes this blog and website such a bottomless treasure of information, inspiration, and fun. I am so grateful to have discovered you!

Thank you SO MUCH! I really appreciate your comment! I am very happy to be part of this wonderful classic movie community 🙂

  3. Javier Valverde says:

What makes “Rebel Without a Cause” a classic is James Dean’s performance as Jim Stark. His character represented the teenage angst of the 50s and his performance made teens feel part of the culture, where before they were not acknowledged. Also, Nicholas Ray’s direction is startling because he brought a lot of James Dean’s and Natalie Wood’s real-life situations into the acting of their characters. Ernest Haller’s beautiful cinematography adds a lot of beauty to the film.

  4. Cole says:

I’ve never seen this movie but I would love to see James Dean on the big screen! I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  5. Kassidy Jacobs says:

This is such an amazing movie! It’s the first James Dean movie I ever saw, and one of my first classics. This movie is a classic because it illustrates teenage disillusionment so well. Every teenager has felt misunderstood at one point, and this movie captures that angst. I would love to see this on the big screen to see the trio in action! Their three talents deserve the big screen. The suspense in this movie, where the police have a standoff, is excellent. A large audience reacting to it makes it seem even more appreciated.
I don’t have a Twitter, so I am posting the message here to enter.

  6. Noah Kilpatrick says:

Since everyone sites Rebel Without a Cause as the defining performance of James Dean, I am highly intrigued to see this flick for the first time, especially on the big screen. Thank you for the opportunity!

  7. Erin Sullivan says:

What Makes Rebel Without A Cause(1955) a classic?

You have James Dean, Natalie Wood & Sal Mineo all in one amazing movie. Their acting is so realistic. James Dean will always be one of my favorite actors.

  8. Susan Lomauro says:

Rebel Without a Cause is a classic due to the timeless themes of teen aged alienation, anger, fear and ultimately the need of love and approval. James Dean’s performance is so honest and raw. The movie came out in 1955, but Dean to this day seems contemporary! Genius! Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo were also superb.

  9. Adam VanHandel says:

I have yet to see the film, but I always love seeing classics in theaters, especially for the first time. Especially Cinemascope.

  10. Michelle Connelly says:

James Dean’s career was so tragically short and he has such a mesmerizing presence on screen. Those two things make the movie a classic for me. Every time I see it I always think about what could have been. Additionally it is just a good movie! It’s very visually appealing also. I would love to see it on the big screen!

  11. tracy says:

originally i was never a fan of james dean. i thought he flat out copied marlon brando and was just not a great actor. ive seen rebel without a cause many times, and as much i dont like james dean, i thought the movie overall was fanatatic. the whole teenage angst concept was portrayed very well and i loved the connection between dean and his parents throughout the entire movie. the movie itself is very iconic and something i did watch back in college during my film studies classes.

  12. Liam Jax says:

This is my mom’s favorite movie from her teen years. One of my favorite memories, as a child, was sitting in my mom’s lap and watching this movie with her. I didn’t quite understand what was going on, or why James Dean was so tormented- I was only five- but I knew even then that Dean had carisma. My mom is still with me and I’d love to take her to see it on the big screen again. She would love that, and so would I. Thank you.

  13. Jeff DeLany says:

This is a movie that brings serious drama to teenaged angst. It’s an impressive expression of youthful distress.

  14. Becky says:

I have always felt a connection with Natalie Wood in all the films she stars in. West Side Story and Rebel Without A Cause are my absolute favorite. The raw emotion James Dean and Natalie display is so moving. It would be awesome to win tickets!

  15. Jlwthe2nd says:

I haven’t seen this movie yet, but have always wanted to. I want to watch it in order to see what makes it a classic, and to watch James Dean of course! I love seeing all the old classic films in the theater. Really enjoyed South Pacific last month.

  16. Liliana Radwanski says:

Rebel without a Cause should be a classic. it’s about youth and angst.
things that are still being experienced by youth today. the writing was impeccable. the casting of James Dean & Natalie Wood were sublime

James Dean lit up the Screen in this film. Sadly, he died so young. we have very few films with him. they are treasures.

I so would love to this film once on the Big Screen.

  17. Daniel G. says:

Sorry, James Dean. I’m afraid I haven’t seen Rebel Without a Cause. Perhaps I’ll rectify that on September 26th.

  18. Philip Johnson says:

I have never seen the film before. I would love to the way it deserves to be. What I do know is that James Dean was the epitome of cool. This came out in 1955 when people were starting to rebel from the nuclear family mentality, moving into the 60s. Quite sad Dean passed away before Rebel Without a Cause and Giant were released.
