About the book: Written by musical theater historian, Dominic Symonds, “We’ll Have Manhattan” provides unprecedented insight into the unexamined years of Rodgers and Hart’s partnership, from their first meeting in 1919 through their decision in the early 1930s to try their luck in Hollywood. The book also provides an analytical commentary on their professional development and its influence on the changing landscape of the American musical.

  1. Carl says:

I love old tunes so I have many favorites but two that stand out are My Funny Valentine and Blue Moon. I’ve enjoyed these songs in both classic interpretations and more modern versions by Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan. Those tunes just never go out of style. Thanks

  2. Lisa says:

    “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”

  3. Chris Teel says:

Okay, so I just realized Oklahoma would not be on this list. I’m going to crawl in a hole now, but I stick to My Funny Valentine.

  4. The haunting melody and plaintive lyrics of “It Never Entered My Mind” make it one of the most memorable songs ever written. Many people, myself included, can identify with the singer – now for Lauren recognizing they let the right one getaway and they could have prevented it

  5. Forlorn not for Lauren!

  6. Christina sharpe says:

My Funny Valentine would have to be my favourite. It’s my favourite because no matter who is singing if, it gives me the same feeling. The words are so beautiful. It never fails to make smile.

  7. Victoria Rendon says:

There’s a Small Hotel is my favorite Rodgers and Hart song but only when the song is sung by Betty Garrett. I first heard it in the film Words and Music and I fell in love.

  8. Christina sharpe says:

My Funny Valentine would have to be my favourite. It’s my favourite because no matter who is singing if, it gives me the same feeling. The words are so beautiful. It never fails to make smile.

  9. Christina sharpe says:

To choose just one song is pretty hard to do. They have so many good ones. Blue Moon is an incredible song. It’s great in Manhattan Melodrama and I love Elvis’ cover of it.

  10. Lisa says:

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. Was one of my deceased mom’s favorite songs.

  11. Lesley says:

“I Wish I Were in Love Again” is my favorite, though it’s hard to pick just one. Actually, I can’t ever pick a single favorite, so this is one half of my favorite. The lyrics are so spectacular: I particularly like “When love congeals, it soon reveals / the faint aroma of performing seals / The double-crossing of a pair of heels / I wish I were in love again.”

Then there’s “Isn’t It Romantic?” which is unforgettable all by itself but as staged in Rouben Mamoulian’s Love Me Tonight a completely exhilarating cinematic musical moment… passed from character to character, the same way tunes pass from head to head.

  12. Joan O'Malley says:

Isn’t it Romantic. Makes me think of “Sabrina” and Audrey Hepburn

  13. Richard P. Fohrenbach says:

    my Funny Valentine

  14. Sue Grant says:

    My favorite is, “Mountain Greenary!”

  15. Lisa says:

    “My Funny Valentine”

  16. Linda Mayberry says:

Listening to Ella Fitzgerald sing Rodgers & Hart right now. My favorite is usually the song I’m listening to at the moment, but I will pick “Isn’t It Romantic?” today.122
