37 Responses to Trick or Treat: A CMH Halloween “Universal Classic Monsters Collection” DVD Giveaway (Oct 22 – Oct 28)

  1. My favourite Universal monster is The Mummy as played by Karloff. Imhotep is the most optimistic romantic this side of Pepe LePew.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Love it! For me, I think it’s the Bride of Frankenstein, but maybe Dracula (depending on the day 🙂 Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck!

  2. Bharat says:

My fav movie monster is Frankenstein as the story is tragic and resonates even to modern day.

  3. Vickie Gleason says:

My favorite would be Boris Karloff as Frankenstein. I think because it was the first one I saw.

  4. Kassidy Jacobs says:

My favorite monster is Dracula. I have always loved how spooky the film was, despite the lack of special effects! Vampires are one of my favorite Halloween staples, Dracula is a perfect example of what makes them so intriguing! I do not have a Twitter so I am posting the message here.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

That’s one of my favorites too. Such an iconic film and performance. Thanks for entering and Good Luck 🙂

  5. Philip Johnson says:

Dracula/Bela Lugosi. Both are so suave.

  6. Joseph Kolakowski says:

Although I love all of those movies, I would have to say The Invisible Man is my favorite character (although Bride of Frankenstein is a better film, and Wolf Man is the best developed character in the series)

  7. Melissa Hayes says:

I love so many monsters, but for me, Bela Lugosi’s portrayal of Dracula seals the deal. This performance was so iconic that it forever cemented the way that pop culture AS A WHOLE views the character of Count Dracula. Lugosi’s Dracula is instantly recognizable, whether or not one has seen the film. That, for me, is a classic.

  8. Joan O’Malley says:

It’s a toss up between Dracula and Frankenstein. When I was a kid a local TV station shows horror movies late night on Saturday. My older brother brother loved the monsters so I became a fan too. Something about B&W makes them even spookier. Karloff was king!

  9. Sara Stewart says:

Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolfman. He brought such sorrow and regret to the human side, that you could almost forget the monster…almost. He was an incredible actor and you could see the torment of his character (and his own) in his eyes.

  10. My favorite classic monster portrayal is Boris’ Frankenstein’s monster. He added the necessary humanity to round the fabulous character.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Kerry, I don’t see your tweet. Could you please confirm that you tweeted — or just let me know here if you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks!

  11. Dani says:

My favorite universal monster would have to be Frankenstein. I’ve always found him quite interesting because he’s a monster that was created by man – a creation that went wrong.

  12. Charles Pechonick says:

The Creature from the Black Lagoon, who for some reason is not included in this set… Just always loved the look of him.

  13. Drew A says:

My favorite is Frankenstein, i remeber seeing it when i was about 7 years old on small tv. I loved seeing it then. It changed the way i thought about old movies now i love movies of any decade and can appreciate the work and effort that is put into them.

  14. Trisha Donato says:

Bela Lugosi’s Dracula, without question, is my favorite. So many have copied, but that’s the original and only Dracula for me. It’s classic. Iconic.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

      Hi Trisha,

I can’t find your tweet. Could you please confirm that you tweeted — or just let me know here if you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks!

  15. Woody Woodrum says:

Who is your favorite Classic Movie Monster (or actor that portrays the monster) and why?
As a child, I locked on Lon Chaney, Jr. as the Wolfman right from the start. There was something about the iconic actor, a weight he seemed to carry as Larry Talbot due to the death and destruction he would cause when the wolfbane bloomed and the moon was full and bright – he is the only star to play the Wolfman in all the Universal films of the 1940s, taking ownership of this important charter to me and to other fellows who were “Monster Kids” of the 1950s and 1960s – like my friends of that era. I have passed that love of the Universal films to my son, and hope we can share those nights with Boris, Bela, and Lon to the next generation.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

      Hi Woody,

I haven’t seen your tweet yet for this contest. Could you please confirm that you tweeted. Thanks!

  16. Emma Stone says:

Nosferatu. I was scared to look at him when I was younger.

  17. Mikey A says:

Oh how I love all my monsters it is hard to choose one. But one classic I can never get enough of is, Creature from the Black Lagoon (Starz on demand if you have). He is relentless and the action never stops! I love all the underwater shots even to this day! Thank you for the chance, you are simply amazing CMH 😀

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi, I looked everywhere for your tweet, way back to 10/24 and can’t seem to find it anywhere. Could you please confirm that you tweeted or re-tweet tonight at some point? Thanks!

  18. Toby says:

My favorite Universal Monster is Frankenstein. He’s a misunderstood monster, just looking for friends and is totally innocent.

  19. Madeline C. says:

I’ve always loved the tale of Frankenstein. The make-up performed by Jack Pierce has always been an iconic look, and Boris Karloff’s naturally striking features add to the depth of the character.

  20. Chris Teel says:

Going to have to go with Frankenstein’s monster. He had more personality and emotion than any other. Anger, love, sorrow, happiness, and such a short life
    compared to the others.

  21. Dane Smith says:

The Wolfman, Lon Chaney Jr., he was a tormented soul. Chaney had that sad look about him that made you feel for him.

  22. Brian Maher says:

Boris Karloff as Frankenstein is my favorite Classic Movie Monster. He is so misunderstood and tormented by knowing he can never be accepted or valued even though he sees the potential he can become. What a tragic figure and brilliant character in literature as well. I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

I know what you mean! I just feel so sorry for the Monster throughout the film, and also in Bride of Frankenstein! Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck 🙂

  23. Jenny Taylor says:

My favorite would be Lon Chaney Jr.’s Wolfman. He played it with such sensitivity. I’m also partial to the Creature, poor guy was just lonely in that lagoon!

  24. David Shaw says:

Who is your favorite Classic Movie Monster (or actor that portrays the monster) and why?

Mine is The Invisible Man with Claude Rains. He was such a fantastic character actor that had so many iconic non-leading acting roles: Casablanca, Here Comes Mr. Jordan to name a couple. In The Invisible Man he was so demented and evil.

  25. Jan Ostrom says:

I know he’s not a monster, but my heart lies with Renfield. A naïve fellow with a good heart, he couldn’t help becoming a fly gourmet.

  26. Kewaun L says:

My favorite creature is the bride of Frankenstein. I love her the most because even though she never had any speaking lines that one scream she did said more about her than any monologue would have

  27. David Hollingsworth says:

I think my favorite has to be The Invisible Man, because he represents all of us at some point when we lose control of ourselves when we’ve had that little taste of power. Claude Rains’ performance is one for the ages.

  28. Christopher Mason says:

Favorite classic monster? The Frankenstein monster, especially in Bride of Frankenstein, where we see the so-called “monster’s” humanity come through.

  29. Madeleine says:

Elsa Lanchester as “The Bride of Frankenstein” is my favorite classic movie monster! I really loved the idea of a female “monster” growing up, and she’s still my favorite to this day!

  30. Matr Whitehurst says:

Bela Legosi is my favorite Dracula because he has a stylish charm that makes him attractive and hypnotic. Yet he has a creepy and unsettling feeling look to and it makes him mysterious.
