  1. Carl says:

What a great celebration of such a classic film, thanks very much. My favorite song from the film is Climb Every Mountain. I find it very inspirational and appropriate to so many real-life situations. In fact, when I first read the blog post, before I saw the question, that was the song that I immediately started thinking about. Thanks again, have a great week.

  2. Edelweiss is my favorite song from the film. A moving bit of humanizing for the Captain, a crucial turning point in his relationship with Maria and the children, and a cleverly understated illustration of the film’s larger political context.

  3. LynneMarie says:

My Favorite Things is my favorite song from this movie, because it’s an uplifting song and makes you think of all the things you enjoy (which is a good way to turn around a bad mood).

  4. Ashley Hinz says:

I love most of them, but I will have to say “My Favorite Things”, as it almost entirely sums up how I cope with things. My grandma’s favorite was “Edelweiss”. We watched the show on VHS. I had my 2 tape set by 1992. I’m not sure when my mother bought it, but I have owned it continuously since I was no more than 8.

  5. Lisa Adams says:

I love all the music in this film but one of my favorite scenes is when you see that the Captain and Maria have truly fallen in love. That moment is when he sings Edelweiss. I just melt!

  6. Gail Pascaris says:

I love all the music in The Sound of Music. I find myself humming the songs at odd moments during the day when I swear I’m not even thinking about the movie. Edelweiss is my favorite song. It has a beautiful melody and I love its symbolism in the movie.

  7. Victoria Rendon says:

“The Lonely Goatherd” is my favorite ever since I was little. When I was younger I never really liked the film and thought it was silly (this was ofcourse before I fell in love with musicals and classic films) but the only song I actually enjoyed was “the lonely goatherd” and would just watch for that song.

  8. Joan O'Malley says:

Edelweiss. So simple yet so moving. It conveys the captain’s deep feelings for love and country. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

  9. Aimee Leon says:

I love all the songs of The Sound of Music. All of the music is so precious & unforgettable. But if I must choose one song then it would be “MY FAVORITE THINGS” because that song always raises my spirits/mood when ever I feel down & out. I admit that listen to that song as crazy, and I sing it often to myself at home too. I swear that MY FAVORITE THINGS gives me that warm loving feeling of Christmas. Last but not least it’s one of my favorite scenesof the movie when Maria first bonds with the Von Trapp children.

  10. Kari says:

So tough to choose one favorite song! If I had to choose just one I think I’d pick My Favorite Things simply because it makes you feel good. 🙂 More than the scene where Maria sings it, I love the scene following Maria & the children through the city with the instrumental version playing in the background.

  11. Keith Maultbay says:

I have special fondness for “I Have Confidence.” I love the way it’s filmed.

  12. Annmarie says:

This comment is on behalf of Karen D:
Do-Re-Mi montage. Went to Salzburg in HS. Patted gargoyle’s head, danced under trestle & walked around Pegasus. Memories!

  13. Annmarie says:

This comment is on behalf of Pogi:
Do Re Mi because it’s got such witty lyrics!

  14. I just can’t seem to get “I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen” out of my head every time that part comes on. Catchy tune.

  15. Micaela Weiserth says:

There’s no question that all of the songs in The Sound of Music are beautiful, but my absolute favorite song would have to be ” I Have Confidence.” Whenever I come across a difficult situation or a situation that makes me nervous I always hum a few lines of the song and it makes me remember that I do have confidence!

  16. Morgan Lockhart says:

I love every song but especially Something Good! It always gives me chills because it is sung and filmed so beautifully.

  17. Jeanne Hudson says:

“Do -Re-Mi” is my favorite because I remember singing this over and over as a child!

  18. My favorite song, if pressed to answer (which I am), would have to be “Do-Re-Mi” not just for the song itself but also the traveling Salzburg montage and that the children there bond with Maria.

  19. Laurie Welch says:

“So Long, Farewell” is my favorite song. But so is the story at this part of the film. It is so tense at this point: will the family be found out, or will they get away?

  20. NanksH says:

My favorite song: “I Have Confidence”…that I will win a copy of The Sound of Music Story!

  21. Rhonda says:

    Edelweiss my favorite.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi, haven’t seen your tweet yet, but I’m not drawing the winners until 6PM tonight… so if you want to be included in today’s drawing, please retweet the qualifying tweet… thanks!

  22. Sara Stewart says:

Edelweiss. I love the way Christopher Plummer sings it to his family. The way he was FINALLY connecting with his children was beautiful

  23. The Overture leading into THE SOUND OF MUSIC theme. The way the music mimics the beauty of the Austrian landscape and swells perfectly up to the hillside with a joyous Maria Von Trapp is perfect. @adimike55 on Twitter

  24. Trevor Taylor says:

My Favorite Things! Love The Sound of Music.

  25. Magenta says:

Of course I loved them all, but Edelweiss is my favorite. I first saw the movie when I was about 11, and that song just pierced my heart with its simplicity and the way it brought all the town of Salzburg together during the festival scene. Brilliant.

  26. Chris Teel says:

My favorite things, not only is it a classic, but Will Farrell sang it as Robert Goulet on Conan O’Brian.

  27. Dee Wiggin says:

My favorite song from the ‘Sound of Music’ is My Favorite Things’ because even today when I’m feeling low, I can hum this lovely song and it picks my mood right up! And who can resist something so positive and uplifting!

  28. Rachel Friling says:

My favorite song from the film has to be the title song “The Sound of Music”. The reason why this song is my favorite song is that it’s the song that starts the whole movie. It’s the song that makes you anxious to watch the film. And most importantly, it’s one of my favorite things and always will be!

  29. Joey says:

I’d say Edelweiss is my favorite. Just so beautifully and simply written.

  30. Pam says:

My favorite song from the movie is Climb Every Mountain. I just love how the nuns are encouraging Maria and the gang!

  31. Michelle R says:

I’m surprised no one has chosen “Something Good” as their favorite song. I love Julie Andrews’ wistful expression when she sings this. I sang it over and over to my mother – she may have regretted buying my sister and I the record because I wore it out singing this and she sang “How do you solve a problem like Maria?” just as many times. I also still say “to you and you and you!” every time I hear someone say “Adieu”. Thanks for the chance!

  32. David Hollingsworth says:

My favorite song is “Maria” because there is something about that song that gets to me as the nuns contemplate Maria’s personality.

  33. Lisa says:

“Climb Ev’ry Mountain” – to me, a song of hope.

  34. Erica G says:

There are so many great songs, it is so hard to choose just one. I think my favorite is Edelweiss, especially at the festival, it is such an emotional part, it gets me every time.

  35. Monica says:

I love ‘The Lonely Goatherd’! The puppets, the yodels, and it’s a fun little story song. There are so many other great songs in the film, and I feel this often gets left out. Yet, it’s just as great as the rest!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Monica, I don’t see your tweet yet, so please remember to tweet the qualifying tweet so that you can officially enter. If you already did, please let me know your twitter handle because I can’t seem to find you on twitter. Thanks!

  36. Bonnie says:

“I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen” – I love the dance and have fond memories of singing it as a child, thinking that sixteen was soooo far away. Even though I am well on the other side of 16, I still love the song. 😉

  37. Beth Penland says:

Definitely Edelweiss. It chokes me up every time.

  38. NanksH says:

My favorite song is “I Have Confidence” — because I love the transition from the tentative beginning to the main part of the song and then to the way it ends.

  39. JJT says:

    My Favorite Things

  40. Adriana says:

My favorite song would have to be Edelweiss. It’s such a touching almost lullaby to home and a country they love so much. I get chills every time when they sing it.

  41. Sara says:

This is a touch choice but I’d have to go with “Edelweiss”

  43. Emily Malone says:

I Have Confidence is my favorite. It shows off various sides of Julie’s voice, it’s got great cinematography, plus it’s a great song to sing in the shower first thing in the morning!
