About the film: For sheer pageantry and spectacle, few motion pictures can claim to equal the splendor of Cecil B. DeMille’s 1956 remake of the epic film, The Ten Commandments. Filmed in Egypt and the Sinai with one of the biggest sets ever constructed for a motion picture, this version tells the story of the life of Moses (Charlton Heston), once favored in the Pharaoh’s (Yul Brynner) household, who turned his back on a privileged life to lead his people to freedom.

  1. I have long been a fan of the epics, and this is the film that introduced me to the genre. To see this on the big screen is a treat!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Michael, not sure if you’re officially entering or not, but if you are, please remember to tweet the message. Thanks!

  2. Rachel Zski says:

    Because…
    It is a “Classic.”
The opportunity to see it on the Big Screen is once in a lifetime.
It is one of My Father’s favorite films [and mine].
His 83rd birthday is this month and it would be an AWESOME surprise/gift!
Finally, IT’S ONE OF THE BEST STORIES EVER TOLD, Produced, and Directed by Cecil B. DeMille with Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Yvonne De Carlo, Anne Baxter, and the incredible list of talent goes on…

  3. Ben Deutsch says:

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS is my favorite annual movie-watching tradition on the small screen — would be awesome and epic to see it on the big screen!

    Twitter: @BenLikesMovies

  4. Meredith Galman says:

Charlton Heston needs to be seen larger than lifesize!

  5. Mark P says:

As many of my age, I’ve only seen this on TV, where the scale pales.

  6. Andrew FitzSimons says:

The Ten Commandments has always been one of my favorite movie epics! I watch it every Spring on television and to see it on the big screen for the first time would be mind-blowing! To finally be able to see it as it was intended to be seen would be epic!

  7. Daniel Gushard says:

Why would you like to see “The Ten Commandments” on the Big Screen?

    1. DeMille’s epic on the big screen.
    2. Charlton Heston & Yul Brynner’s commanding performances.
    3. The sheer spectacle; extravagant sets and special effects. I can’t wait to see the parting of the Red Sea.

*I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  8. Annmarie Gatti says:

    Posting on behalf of Ashley:

My grandmother used to watch it quite frequently around Easter, but she did not have a recording of it, so I don’t think I have ever seen it all the way through.

  9. Sara Stewart says:

There are just some movies that NEED to be seen on the big screen. Today’s generation cannot appreciate all of the actual work that went into creating something like this. CG is fun and can take us to new heights, but there’s something to be said the true art it took to make a movie like The Ten Commandments

  10. I would like to see Charlton Heston throw those stone tablets. Watching it on the big screen I would feel like I was actually there!
Also, Yul Brynner – up close and personal?? Yes please! 🙂

  11. Jeanelle Kleveland says:

I love watching classic movies on the big screen. This one is special because the special effects were done by John P. Fulton from my home town in Beatrice, Nebraska. He won an Oscar. The whole movie is filled with special effects and they are fabulous.

  12. Brittaney B says:

The Ten Commandments holds a special place in my heart. It is one of the first movies I ever saw. We watched it together as a family every Easter when it was aired on tv.

  13. william rigler says:

The Ten Commandments is a classic with powerful performances and lush sets. Heston is especially brilliant as Moses and the director uses reality for creating each shot. As such, this epic is most certainly suited to a big screen viewing.

  14. Elaine Denton says:

I think it would be a wonderful experience to see this movie on the big screen with my oldest daughter Randi. She had loved this movie since she was very young. She’s 30 now and I know she hasn’t had the pleasure of seeing it in a theater.

  15. Kevin Shults says:

I’ve been a classic film buff for a long time. To me, these Hollywood epics were MADE to be seen on the big screen. And that’s where I want to see them. Bravo to Fathom Events and TCM for bringing them around for us. Please let me win a pair of tickets…”So let it be written. So let it be done.”

    • Sue May says:

Yes! I could have copied your comment–these epics are best seen on the big screen! And we love the old classics so much better than so much of what comes out of Hollywood these days!

  16. Shanti R says:

The timbre of his voice and straight up sexy gravitas, who wouldn’t want to see a fifty-foot Yul Brenner???

  17. hardindr says:

I want to see “The Ten Commandments” on The Big Screen because it is the only proper way to view a visual masterpiece from Hollywood’s Golden Era. Seeing the amazing practical effects only makes sense in a movie theatre. Also, seeing Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner larger than life is worth the price of admission alone.

    Twitter: @hardindr

  18. Sue May says:

It’s a classic! From a time when it was okay to tell “religious stories”–especially w/o major changes to the story!
Everything is better on the big screen!
My husband & I are movie fanatics! And we met at the movies! (A week long film festival!)

  19. RadioP1 says:

I have seen a lot of great classics on the big screen at UCLA and American Cinematheque. Having moved outside of Los Angeles, I appreciate Fathom making classic film literature available at my local theater. This particular film has a lot of large-scale, innovative, practical (non-digital) visual and mechanical effects that are pivotal to the effective telling of the story. If those play clean in a large format in today’s era of CGI, that is testimony to the great craftsmanship of the FX team. I want to see that.

  20. Susan OToole Case says:

First-NO COMMERCIALS. WOO-HOO Second BETTER POPCORN Third-I would love to see this epic film with the sound that Cecil DeMille intended. I can only imagine the power Dolby surround would lend to this powerful film. And, most importantly, DONT FORGET THE 11TH COMMANDMENT-Thou shalt see The Ten Commandments in an Actual Theatre Before You Die or Noah Will Not Let You On The Ark! Far beit for me to break a commandment!
