About the film: Refusing to join the company boxing team gets Robert E. Lee Prewitt (Montgomery Clift), a soldier in Sgt. Milton Warden’s (Burt Lancaster) outfit, ostracized by his fellow soldiers save one, Pvt. Angelo Maggio (Frank Sinatra). While Prewitt falls in love with prostitute Alma Lorene (Donna Reed), and Warden carries on an affair with Karen Holmes (Deborah Kerr), the wife of their company commander, Maggio goes AWOL and is brutally beaten before dying in Prewitt’s arms. In retaliation, Prewitt angrily kills the man responsible for Maggio’s death and then finds sanctuary in Lorene’s arms — until Pearl Harbor is bombed and he’s killed while trying to rejoin Warden and their company to defend the islands.

  1. I liked the film because of the stellar performances by Burt Lancaster and Montgomery Clift. Also, it was based on a novel which usually ends up being better than a movie adaptation.

Hi, I don’t see your tweet… Please remember to tweet so that you can be officially entered — or please let me know here that you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks!

  2. Daniel G. says:

It has been ages since I’ve seen From Here to Eternity. Now that I am living in Hawaii, I would like to revisit this movie to see how different the locations have become.

*I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  3. Michael Fisher says:

The film is such an improvement on Jones’ book–which I couldn’t even finish. And the cast is a knockout! Easily Clift’s best work, and Lancaster is stoic. Everyone talks about Sinatra, but I think he’s better in both SUDDENLY and MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. Reed and Kerr are no longer symbols or purity, and you HATE Borgnine!

    • Michael Fisher says:

I no longer have a Twitter account, so I am posting here.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

I haven’t read the book… but I do thoroughly enjoy the film ever time I see it… Can’t wait to see it on the Big Screen… Thanks for entering and Good Luck 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Michael, Congratulations! You just won tickets… I just sent you an email, if you don’t receive it, please let me know. Thanks!

  4. Dallas says:

    Deborah Kerr & Hawaii

  5. MELISSA HAYES says:

“From Here to Eternity” is one of those rare films that is actually better than the book. The chemistry between Lancaster and Kerr is so palpable!

  6. Lana Hall says:

I’ve actually never seen From Here to Eternity and I’m a HUGE classic film buff, I was waiting to see it for the first time in theaters actually just because experiencing an old movie on the big screen is always the best as well as I wanted to do that as a birthday thing for (my birthday is December 19th)! I also wanted to take my boyfriend to see it because I’m trying to bring him into the wonderful world of Old Hollywood and there’s no better way to do that than to show him a top classic on the big screen! – I don’t have a twitter so I’m entering here!

  7. Bernard Golden says:

Seeing the calendar showing Dec 6, 1941 on the wall.

  8. Amarillys Romero says:

Hmmmm what do I love MOST about this film.
Frankly, my dear, that’s a very difficult question to answer because there is so much to love. Do I love the stellar, Oscar winning/nominated performances by Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Monty Clift, Deborah Kerr, and Donna Reed the most? Do I love that iconic, utterly romantic kiss on the beach the most? Or could it be that highly emotional scene (which actually moved me to tears the first time) where Prew plays his bugle and all the other soldiers listen quietly (with the exception of that one spoken line) and tears run down his face? That elaborate scene of Frank Sinatra which quite possibly is the main reason he won his Oscar? Prew’s raw emotion? Warden’s tough attitude-particularly in the scene where he breaks up a fight between Fatso and Maggio? What could it be?
It appears there is too much to choose from, this film is a masterpiece with great characters and a well-developed plot. I would love to go see it on the big screen next month. Might I also mention, that my birthday is the day before the winners are announced and that would be a rad present I think 😉
Anyways, good luck to all and thanks for holding this generous contest!!

  9. Matthew Hume says:

CLIFT… one of the game’s most underrated Method Actors!! #MontyGotARawDeal

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Matthew, please remember to tweet the qualifying tweet, or let us know here if you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks!

  10. Would be amazing things about the film is its ability to tell a small intimate story against the backdrop of huge, historical events. It’s a tough balance to pull off and I can’t think of the film that does it better. I’ve always wanted to see it on the big screen!

  11. Adam V says:

I have yet to see From Here to Eternity, though I’ve been meaning to get around to watching it for a while now. I love WWII movies and seeing classics on the big screen as they were meant to be seen, so why wouldn’t I go see this?

I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

I think it’s going to be terrific on the Big Screen. Thanks for entering and Good Luck 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Adam, Congratulations! You just won tickets… I just sent you an email, if you don’t receive it, please let me know. Thanks!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

      Hi Adam,

Just a quick reminder to check for my email… Need to have theater/time/date info by today (Tuesday 12/6) at 5PM EST. Thanks!

  12. I love the scale of this film. It encompasses more than just the events leading up to the entry to the war. It shows soldiers as actual people. Not just war propaganda. Like “The Sullivans”.

  13. Sara Morrow says:

I’ve actually never seen it before. It would be great to see it for the first time on the big screen.

I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  14. Lauren stamm says:

    I’ve never seen the movie…….yet!

  15. Lilly says:

From Here To Eternity is a subtle masterpiece, in my opinion. The story offers a great deal of emotions from a unfortunate, raw reality to passion and tenderness. It was well directed and the acting from each and every main character is moving. I always cry toward the end… This would be a wonderful film to see on the big screen.

  16. magnoliasouth says:

The reminder that life can be interrupted by tragedy at any moment. I don’t think I fully appreciated this film until post 9/11. Growing up, it’s hard to understand the shock and sickness you feel with such a mass of killing, followed by immediate war. Before, I felt the show was an excellent drama. The acting was superb, the writing too. I looked at it as though it were a painting and I a was critiquing it. Now though, I see it in a totally different light. There is a message there that is deep and so true. No matter how bad life can be, it can be worse. Hold on to the good things in your life and let the bad ones slip away. We have one chance on this earth and we need to appreciate it more. Once that life is gone, it’s gone forever… eternity. From here, the now to death and eternity. Wow. It’s just so very powerful, isn’t it?

  17. Bob Nichnadowicz says:

I’ve never seen the film before, but it has one of my favorite actors, Burt Lancaster, and one of the greatest singers ever in Frank Sinatra, who by law here in New Jersey, I am required to love and adore.

  18. Susan Case says:

The death in arms ripped my heart out. Kerr & Reed two of my favorite classic actresses and to see them in the same film posed against each other on big screen instead of the 20 inch Sony I last remember seeing this film on would be crazy!

  19. Shelia says:

Oh yes! I may have just gotten under the wire! 8:30 Central.
I saw it a looong time ago and really cannot remember anything but had just earmarked it to see on the big screen when I saw this giveaway.
    Great!
