Yay! The Contest is over and the winners are:
Ana, David H, Vickie and Nancy.

Well, this month we have a very special giveaway courtesy of Kino Lorber! We are happy to say that from now until Saturday April 1, we’ll be giving away 4 Michael York autographed copies of “Something for Everyone” on Twitter (another blog post will follow later this week, in which we’ll be giving away 1 more autographed copy via our Facebook/Blog version of the contest). And, yes, you can enter both contests to increase your odds of winning! And, for those of you who don’t have Twitter, there is an alternate way to enter below…

In order to qualify to win one of these prizes via this Twitter contest giveaway, you must complete the below entry task by Saturday, April 1 at 10PM EST. However, the sooner you enter, the better chance you have of winning, because we will pick a winner on four different days within the contest period, via random drawings, as listed below… So if you don’t win the first week that you enter, you will still be eligible to win during the following weeks until the contest is over.

  • March 11: One Winner
  • March 18: One Winner
  • March 25: One Winner
  • April 1: One Winner

We will announce each week’s winner on Twitter @ClassicMovieHub (or this blog, depending how you entered), the day after each winner is picked at 10PM EST — for example, we will announce our first week’s winners on Sunday March 12 at 10PM EST.

If you’re also on Facebook, please feel free to visit us at Classic Movie Hub on Facebook for additional giveaways (or check back on this Blog in a few days) — because we’ll be giving away ONE MORE prize via Facebook/Blog as well!

THE QUESTION:
Which of Michael York’s films is your favorite and why? And, if you haven’t seen a Michael York film yet, why do you want to win this Blu-Ray?

*If you do not have a Twitter account, you can still enter the contest by simply answering the above question via the comment section at the bottom of this blog — BUT PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ADD THIS VERBIAGE TO YOUR ANSWER: I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

About the film: Newly re-mastered in HD! Seduction and Murder Scandalizes German Nobility! The great Angela Lansbury (Murder, She Wrote) and Michael York (Cabaret) star in this slick blend of drama and black comedy with a fairy tale setting in a Bavarian castle. In post WWII Germany, the aristocratic Von Ornstein family has fallen on hard times. Countess Von Ornstein (Lansbury) can’t maintain her castle, but things begin to look up with the arrival of a handsome and young footman named Conrad (York) who apparently can do “anything” asked of him. Determined to become a member of nobility, Conrad one by one, cons, seduces, corrupts and compromises everyone who crosses his path. Set in the authentic 100-year-old castle, this polished mix of humor and suspense with a great twist ending truly offers Something For Everyone. Legendary Broadway producer, Harold Prince (West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof) made his feature film directorial debut with this handsome production written by Hugh Wheeler (Sweeney Todd) and based on the celebrated classic novel, The Cook by Harry Kressing.

  2. _MajorValentine says:

My favorite film that York has starred in is Cabaret. Primarily because I always enjoy musicals and because he gave an amazing performance!

  3. Laura A. says:

I’ve never seen a Michael York movie but this one sounds really interesting!! Plus anything with Angela Lansbury is a plus.

  4. My favorite Michael York films are Richard Lester’s THREE MUSKETEERS, FOUR MUSKETEERS, and RETURN OF THE MUSKETEERS. Lester’s films are grand aventures, laugh-filled, and the most faithful adaptations of the Dumas books. The casts of the movies are amazing, led by Michael York as the perfect D’Artagnan!

  5. Ana Roland says:

My first and favorite Michael York film is Romeo and Juliet (1968.) Murder on the Orient Express (1974) is another favorite film of mine. I have never seen Something for Everyone (1970) but do know it is a cult black comedy that sounds like a riot! Plus I love Angela Lansbury.

  6. David Hollingsworth says:

I would have to choose Logan’s Run, because for all of its cheesiness and very dated 70’s attire, it still had something to say about gender and the boundaries of age. And you can’t go wrong with Jenny Agutter.

  7. Shelia says:

I’ve seen Michael York in several films but none of them seem to stand out for me for his performances per se. And I think that is actually a strength from my viewpoint. He could be counted on to give a consistent, solid performance that maybe didn’t steal the show but certainly added to the overall completeness. Just a regular go-to guy, if you will. IMDb listed him as having 163 actor credits from 1967 and still going!! I’d say that is a successful career.
I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  8. Vickie Gleason says:

I did enjoy him in Romeo and Juliet as well as the Three Musketeers. I have not seen this film so would enjoy receiving this Blu-Ray and watching another adventure! I enjoyed listening to him on the TCM Cruise.

  9. bill norris says:

Gotta be 1976’s Logan’s Run. A great bit of sci-fi for sure.

  10. Brandy says:

It is hard to choose just one. I like Logan’s Run, Murder on the Orient Express, & The Musketeers films to name some. I have never seen Something for Everyone. I did enjoy Mr. York on Gilmore Girls too. I should probably mention the Austin Powers movies too. : ) It would be nice to win the Blu-ray signed by Mr. York. Thanks for the chance to win.

  11. Jim Pontt says:

Smashing Time, which clearly inspired Michael Myers for Austin Powers. Micheal York plays Basil Exposition 30 years early.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Jim, Can’t seem to find your tweet. Please confirm that you tweeted — and if you don’t have a twitter account, just let me know… Thanks!

  12. Nancy says:

The first movie I saw Michael York in was Great Expectations, so that one holds a special place for me because I’ve loved him since!

  13. Jennifer Pruess says:

It is hard to choose, but I would have to say Zeppelin is my favorite of Michael’s films because it’s a great blend of adventure, humor, and heart.

  14. Kelly Yockman says:

To be honest the only films I’ve seen him in were the Austin Powers films… but I’d love to see him in his starring roles! I don’t want to just know him from the slapstick comedies he was in. He has raw talent and this movie would be a great start.

  15. Louis Lopez says:

It would be a tie between The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers. I loved his performance as D’Artagnan in both films.

  16. william says:

It’s hard to narrow down Michael York’s work to one single film favorite, but I suppose my selection would be The Three Musketeers due to York’s charming balance of heroics and humor.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi William, I can’t seem to find your tweet. Could you please confirm that you tweeted, or let me know by commenting back here if you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Never mind… Found your tweet 🙂

  17. Linda Michel says:

I love many of the characters Michael York plays:
In Cabaret as the unrequited lover of Sally Bowles,
As an avid fan of Law & Order, Criminal Intent, he was fantastic as the dapper pathological antagonist.
As a memorable John the Baptist in Jesus of Nazareth.
And as a Sand,an in Logans run…a crush at that time and a Samson to his Delilah!

  18. Adam VanHandel says:

Gonna have to say Logan’s Run. Such a well written, clever Science Fiction flick.

  19. Sara Stewart says:

Logan’s Run with The Island of Dr. Moreau a close second. Of course there is Romeo and Juliet, the Three Muskateers…WHY do you make these so hard??? 🙂 I love the earlier syfy moves, pure talent no CG effects. The actors had to actually ACT.
