…..

Here are the titles up for grabs:

The Lemon Drop Kid (1951): Blu-Ray or DVD available. Comedy legend Bob Hope (My Favorite Brunette) stars as Sidney Milburn (A.K.A. The Lemon Drop Kid, named so after his love of the simple candy), a con man who offers a friendly “sure thing” horse tip to the girlfriend of mobster Moose Moran (Fred Clark, Visit to a Small Planet) at the race track. When the horse loses and Moose’s original pick wins, Moose gives Sidney until Christmas to pay back the money he lost or his thug, Sam the Surgeon (Harry Bellaver, Naked City), will “open up” Sidney after Christmas. To pay back the money he owes Moose, Sidney enlists some pals to hit the street corners of New York dressed as Santa Claus accepting donations for a bogus elderly ladies’ home, but soon after, gangster Oxford Charlie (Lloyd Nolan, The House on 92nd Street) tries to move in on Sidney’s scam. What follows is vintage Hope shenanigans, highlighted by a heart-warming rendition of the Christmas classic “Silver Bells” sung by Hope and Marilyn Maxwell (Lost in a Harem). Also starring William Frawley (I Love Lucy) and Tor Johnson (The Black Sleep).

I’ll Be Seeing You (1944):  Blu-Ray or DVD available. Hollywood greats Ginger Rogers (Swing Time), Joseph Cotten (The Third Man) and Shirley Temple (Since You Went Away) top a stellar cast in this tender wartime love story about two troubled strangers who long for a normal life, meet by chance and try to crowd a lifetime of love and laughter into eight days. Studded with brilliant performances, I’ll Be Seeing You manages to ambush your emotions and hasten your heartbeats. After serving half of a prison sentence for accidental manslaughter, Mary Marshall (Rogers) is allowed a holiday furlough to visit her family. Keeping her history a secret, she falls in love with a kindhearted G.I. (Cotten) who’s struggling to overcome post-traumatic stress disorder. This David O. Selznick (Duel in the Sun) holiday classic features stunning cinematography by Tony Gaudio (The Adventures of Robin Hood) in glorious black-and-white and wonderful direction by William Dieterle (Portrait of Jennie).

Pocketful of Miracles (1961):  Blu-Ray or DVD available. Capricious, winsome, whimsical, and all together delightful! Superbly directed by the peerless Frank Capra (It’s a Wonderful Life), this remake of Lady For A Day is pure Hollywood magic – an unforgettable combination of comedy, whimsy and romance that was nominated for three Oscars including Supporting Actor (Peter Falk, TV’s Columbo), Costume Design, and Original Song. Impoverished Broadway peddler “Apple Annie” (Bette Davis, All About Eve) has a problem, her daughter Louise (Ann-Margret, Tommy), educated abroad since infancy, is coming for a visit and bringing her wealthy fiance with her. The problem is that Louise has believed all her life that Annie’s a wealthy dowager, and the poor old women doesn’t know what to do. Enter “Dave the Dude” (Glenn Ford, 3:10 to Yuma), a kindhearted racketeer who enlists the aid to pass Annie off as a high-society granddame so Louise can marry her fairy-tale prince and everyone can live happily ever after! This Christmas classic was the final film in Frank Capra’s glorious career and featured a great supporting cast that included Hope Lange, Arthur O’Connell, Thomas Mitchell, Edward Everett Horton and Barton MacLane.

  1. I’d most like to win POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES, because it was one of my Dad’s favorites. It was a regular annual viewing when I was a kid, and I haven’t seen it since. Secondly, anything with Peter Falk is worth viewing for his performance alone. Finally, Jackie Chan liked this movie so much that he made a remake of it (adding a few kung-fu sequences).

  2. Liliana Radwanski says:

The Movie I woul love to win ,and Why?
I would love to win the holiday classic,Pocket full of Miracles because it is endearing and touching.it shows humanity, love, and compassion.a man helps a mother who is an outside theater vendor pass for a society lady when her daughter who she she hasn’t seen since infancy wants to see her and introduce her wealthy fiancee.what to do.kindness is bestowed by a racketeering played by Glen Ford who turns into a fairy Godfather. The mother is Apple Annie played brilliantly by Bette Davis.Ann-Margaret plays her daughter,Louise.

This movie was a remake of Lady for a day.it was Frank Capra’s final directed film.appropriately,Frank would make his last one be a Christmas film.
The movie is about helping one another.it’s about friendship and love.and love of family.love from a mother to her only daughter.

  3. Brittaney B says:

I would love to win I’ll Be Seeing you because I think it’s a uniquely thoughtful and underrated film.

  4. Billy Slobin says:

AnnMarie @ClassicMovieHub I would love to win a copy of I’ll Be Seeing You. i’m a big fan of Ginger Rogers and The Great Joseph Cotten (most underrated actor) This is a great film that I can’t see enough times. Thank you for your awesome posts!

  5. Randi J Cook says:

I’ll be seeing you because Shirley Temple is a favorite of mine and I’ve not seen her n a film where she is older. Will be twittering at @RandiAndWilliam

  6. Phil Fennelly says:

The Lemon Drop Kid. Bob Hope excelled in these types of roles. Part huckster/part softy. Marilyn Maxwell was never better. It should be thought of more as a Christmas movie than it is.

  7. Laura A. says:

I would pick I’ll Be Seeing You as I’ve been wanting to see it for some time.

  8. Dianne says:

I’d love to win, “Pocketful of Miracles”. I’ve loved this movie for years, and it’s not shown or known, nearly enough. Everything about it is great: the story, the writing, and probably best of all – THE CAST. You know a film is great when Bette Davis and Glenn Ford are only two of the legends involved in it. Of course, many of them aren’t as famous as the headliners, but that doesn’t diminish their legend status for me. If you haven’t seen “Pocketful of Miracles” – please do!
Thank you for this contest and for your great twitter account.

  10. Garrett Solomon says:

I would like a copy of “Pocketful of Miracles” because I admit to not having seen a whole lot of Frank Capra films and yet I’ve been slowly working my way through his filmography.

  11. Shelia says:

Oh my! what to choose….what to choose….I may have to let you do that Annmarie! Since I’m a novice on most of the Christmas Classics. Maybe I’ll see how IMDb rates them…?? Thanks for the giveaway.
I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  12. Vickie L Gleason says:

I would love to win a copy of I’ll Be Seeing You. I really like Joseph Cotton and Ginger Rogers and the song is one of my favorites! Thank you!!

  13. Stuart Cook says:

My choice of movie is POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES. It’s a spirited remake of “Lady for a Day” with a great cast, especially Bette Davis & Peter Falk. It would be great to see this in widescreen, and not the pan and scan TV version.
I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.

  14. Kevin Shults says:

I’d like to win Pocket Full of Miracles because although I’m a big Frank Capra fan, I’ve never seen this movie! Thanks for continuing to recognize and promote classic Hollywood.
    —Kevin

  15. Javier Valverde says:

I would like to win Pocketful of Miracles because it’s one of the few Bette Davis films I’ve never seen. Also I would like to win this film because I’m intrigued by the on-set tensions between Bette Davis and Glenn Ford and between Bette Davis and Frank Capra and I would like to see how that is reflected on-screen.

  16. Chris Teel says:

The Lemon-Drop Kid. Because Bob Hope’s comedy is timeless and makes me laugh harder than anything new.

  17. Brett Doze says:

I would like to win “The Lemon Drop Kid” because it served as the origin for the great holiday song, “Silver Bells.” I also think it sounds like a fun film because it takes the idea of a holiday film in a different direction and features the always-great Bob Hope.

  18. bill budd says:

It would be a Miracle (Pocketful) if I won The Lemon Drop Kid and then I’ll Be Seeing You more often.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Bill, I can’t seem to find your tweet. Could you please confirm that you tweeted or let me know if you don’t have a twitter account. Thanks 🙂

  19. Ashley says:

“I’ll be seeing you”. Because Ginger Rogers is a timeless, very brilliant actress/dancer. Any movie she stars in is the bee’s knees. “I’ll Be Seeing You” will look so dazzling in my Classic Hollywood movie collection. 🙂

  20. Stacia says:

All three of these are great movies, but I’d love to win The Lemon Drop Kid, which I first heard about when I was a little kid learning to play “Silver Bells” for classical guitar. It was a beautiful arrangement and became my favorite Christmas song, but it must have taken me nearly 20 years to actually SEE the movie. I was not disappointed!

  21. Mandy says:

I’d most like to win “I’ll Be Seeing You” because, despite being a huge Joseph Cotton and Ginger Rogers fan, I somehow have never seen this movie!!!

  22. Richie Rainville says:

would love a pocket full of miracles, my late grandfathers favorite film. we watched it when i was a kid and always reminds me of him

  23. Sara Duckworth says:

I would like to win I’ll Be Seeing You. I have never seen it before, and any movie with Ginger Rogers and Joseph Cotten you can’t go wrong with. I’d definitely would love to see this movie and add it to my massive collection of classic movies. From what I read concerning the plot line, I’m already anxious to see it. It’s been on my Amazon wish list for some time now. Another reason I would love to see this film is because I would like to get a chance to watch it with my friend from AZ, who is coming down to spend the week of my 27th birthday with me. I managed to get her to expand her horizon concerning the classics. She has only seen Ginger in several of her films with Fred and Monkey Business. Being able to watch this classic film with someone my age, who enjoys watching the classics like me, would be a treat and dream come true for me. I’d definitely would be watching I’ll Be Seeing You before then though. Thanks for chance of entering, and Merry Christmas!!!

  24. Christine Ewerdt says:

Which movie do I want to win most and why…so hard to pick! “Pocket Full of Miracles” – Thomas Mitchell’s last film and Ann-Margret’s first film. One phenomenal career ending yet another brilliant career on the cusp of super stardom in Ann-Margret.

“The Lemon Drop Kid,”with Bob Hope and Bill Frawley…who was almost unemployable at this time due to his alcoholism. Such a remarkable talent in Frawley and this was the beginning of an amazing comeback for him….he would go on to land his most memorable role – Fred Mertz – after this.

I can’t decide. I want them both!! I flipped a coin…and Capra for Christmas is what I want!!!

  25. Devan V. says:

I would love to win “I’ll Be Seeing You” – ginger Rogers is wonderful!!! The story itself is so different and yet romantic, raw and enduring. It’s always been one of my favorites

  26. Gloria Elizabeth says:

I do not have a Twitter account, so I am posting here to enter but cannot tweet the message.
I’LL BE SEEING YOU because I’m a sap for star-crossed love-at-first-encounter. Also because the title song is a favorite and always brings tears to my eyes.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck! Also, thank you so very much for commenting on everyone’s posts! I greatly appreciate it! Lots of prizes to give away this weekend 🙂

  27. Emma Stone says:

I’d like Pocketful of Miracles, having seen Lady For a Day and really liking it, surely Capra’s remake will be just as good.

  28. Stephanie Kostiuk says:

My pick is ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ starring Ginger Rogers and Jospeh Cotton. I saw it for the first time last month and loved it. This film does a beautiful job of being heartwarming but also with some darkness/realism. They touch on more complex ideas such as the psychological effects on soldiers returning from war and sexual harassment in the workplace. The performances are top notch and I even ended up crying by the end. This is an underrated gem that I hope to add the my dvd collection.

  29. Liz says:

I would love to win a copy of I’ll Be Seeing You. I saw it for the first time two years ago and it just blew me away. I’ve loved it ever since and would dearly love a chance to share it with my family!

  30. I’d love to win I’LL BE SEEING YOU. Although it may sound cheesy, it’s one of the sweetest and purest romance films I’ve ever watched. Ginger Rogers and Joseph Cotten share a wonderful chemistry onscreen and the rest of the cast holds their own. I really enjoy Shirley Temple’s performance, as well.

  31. Jennifer says:

I’d love to win I’ll Be Seeing You for a few reasons. It’s one of my favorite holiday movies, I love Joseph Cotten and Ginger Rogers — their chemistry together in this movie is sublime, and it was one of the first (if not the first) movies to deal with military PTSD and compassion for those convicted/prisoners and did so that integrated with the story perfectly without it being heavy handed. What could have been a depressing film because of dark subject matter was still a lovely and inspiring holiday movie because of the excellent writing and superb performances of Cotten and Rogers and the fine supporting cast.

  32. Morgan Emily says:

I would love to win The Lemon Drop Kid because Bob Hope is one of my absolute favorite actors! Winning that film would be such a fun experience!

  33. Love to win THE LEMON DROP KID because it’s one of my holiday favorites. Not the best reputation of Damon Runyon but it’s a funny Hope vehicle.

  34. Kassidy J Jacobs says:

I would like to win “I’ll Be Seeing You,” because I am such a sucker for romance films! The plot sounds intriguing and I would love to see how everything unfolds. Plus, Ginger Rogers is such a beauty! I do not have a twitter account so I am posting the message here.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

It’s such a nice film, although I must admit I haven’t seen it in ages. Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck 🙂

  35. TOM WHITE says:

“The Lemon Drop Kid” is exceeded only by “Sorrowful Jones” as my favorite Bob Hope movie. And why not? Based on a classic story by Damon Runyon, full of great scenes and dialogue, and introduced the holiday classic song “Silver Bells”. A true delight!

  36. Anna Fulbright says:

Pocketful of miracles because I love Capra.

  37. KC Black says:

I would love to win Pocketful of Miracles. I’ve only seen parts of it on TV – it always seems to come on so late here. Seems like a very good Christmas movie and it would be nice to start a new tradition of watching this every year. Thank you for offering this contest! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  38. Anna F says:

Pocketful of miracles because it is touching and sweet. I love Frank Capras movies. He was a great director.

  39. Pamela Smith says:

I would LOVE to win I’ll Bee Seeing You. Ginger Rogers is mostly known for her dancing, but she was a FABULUOUS dramatic actress as well. This story showcases Ms. Rogers dramatic acting talents so well. Her chemistry with Joseph Cotten lights up the screen. Using Christmas as the background for the storyline strengthens the viewers sympathetic feelings for Ginger’s character.
