About the Book: One of the most influential and respected entertainers of Hollywood’s golden age, Gene Kelly revolutionized film musicals with his innovative and timeless choreography. A would-be baseball player and one-time law student, Kelly captured the nation’s imagination in films such as Anchors Aweigh (1945), On the Town (1949), An American in Paris (1951), and Singin’ in the Rain (1952). In the first comprehensive biography written since the legendary star’s death, authors Cynthia Brideson and Sara Brideson disclose new details of Kelly’s complex life. Not only do they examine his contributions to the world of entertainment in depth, but they also consider his political activities―including his opposition to the Hollywood blacklist. The authors even confront Kelly’s darker side and explore his notorious competitive streak, his tendency to be a taskmaster on set, and his multiple marriages.Drawing on previously untapped articles and interviews with Kelly’s wives, friends, and colleagues, Brideson and Brideson illuminate new and unexpected aspects of the actor’s life and work. He’s Got Rhythm is a balanced and compelling view of one of the screen’s enduring legends.

  1. Vickie Gleason says:

My favorite Gene Kelly. There are many I love to watch but none beat this one. His dance moves are effortless. It brings many fond memories of watching this as a child.

  2. Carl says:

There sure are a lot of great ones to choose from. I really like the compilation films like That’s Entertainment and That’s Dancing but maybe his most creative work is in An American in Paris.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

For me, it’s so difficult to choose… maybe Singin’ in the Rain, but tough choice…
Thanks for entering and Good Luck 🙂

  3. Ashley Hinz says:

For Me and My Gal. (1942). He suddenly realizes he’s in love with Judy Garland. It’s so believeable.

  4. Pamela Robinson says:

My favorite Gene Kelly movie is “Summer Stock” (1950). I remember reading an article about Judy Garland mentoring Gene when he first started at MGM during the filming of “For Me and My Gal” in 1942. She insisted he was her leading man although he was not well known. Years later when they filmed “The Pirate” (1948) and then Summer Stock Judy was nearing the end of her contract with MGM and experiencing many personal problems. Gene remembered how Judy had helped him in his early years and stood by her side during the filming of these movies, especially Summer Stock resembling the patience of a Saint. Summer Stock also showed how rough the life of an actor was back in the early 50’s. My favorite dance routine was when he danced with a newspaper & creaking wooden stage floor.

So many good ones to choose from! Such a talent to say the least. Thank you so much for entering and Good Luck 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Pamela, I am so happy to say that you are our winner! I just sent you an email. If you don’t receive it, please let me know. Thanks 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Pamela, we’ve tried 3 times to contact you by email about your prize, and haven’t heard back from you yet. If we don’t hear back from you per the deadline noted in our last email, we will unfortunately need to pick another winner in your place. Hope to hear from you.

  5. Bianca B. says:

My favorite Gene Kelly movie is An American in Paris. The dance numbers are memorable and also very colorful. His onscreen love interest played by Leslie Caron is absolutely ravishing as well. Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron are evenly matched here. Great casting!

  6. Kat C. says:

It is so hard to choose just one as a favorite, but if I had to I would probably say “Singin’ in The Rain.” It is just such a happy movie. The musical numbers are amazing, from the choreography to the vocals. The cast members just look like they are having so much fun (although we know they had grueling rehearsals). The smiles on the faces of Gene and Donald O’Connor in “Moses Supposes” show they really are enjoying what they are doing.
Other favorites include “An American in Paris,” “The Pirate” and “Summer Stock.” I just love the newspaper dance and when he sings “You, Wonderful You” to Judy. And the athleticism Gene has in “The Three Musketeers” is jaw-dropping. See how difficult it is to narrow it down? 🙂

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

I so agree… so many good movies! Singin’ in the Rain is one of my favorites as well. Thanks so much for entering and Good Luck 🙂
