  1. While I adore all of Vincent Price’s films, my absolute favorite is The Baron of Arizona! Price played an amazingly crafty gent in this film who would stop at nothing to obtain a massive parcel of land! Why I love it, because we see so many different facets of his ability in this role, because it is a true story which is equally crazy as the film, but most importantly, knowing Price was most proud of this role makes it a pleasure to watch to see him in a dramatic role worthy of his ability!

  2. Chris Teel says:

House of Wax. I would say House in Haunted Hill, but as I haven’t seen it, it would be disingenuous. I keep seeing it for sale, but I always opt for something else.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

I remember seeing House of Wax when I was a kid, and it scared me! And, as much as I’ve heard about House on Haunted Hill, I’m probably too chicken to watch it!!!

      • Chris Teel says:

He also did radio, he was Simon Templar on The Saint. I know that because when I can’t sleep I listen to old radio shows.

  3. Sheila Fiene says:

I’ve been a huge fan of Vincent Price all my life it seems. It is hard to choose one movie, but I will go with one of my favorites for this season, THE TINGLER. I can still watch this movie several times a year. Vincent is a workaholic doctor, he has a ne’er-do-well wife, a trusty assistant, and….a monster. The added William Castle bonuses are great, especially the shock of color in the midst of a black and white film. All this, meshed with a captivating performance by Judith Evelyn, makes THE TINGLER one of my all-time favorite Vincent Price films.

  4. Tess Spriesterbach says:

My favorite Vincent Price movies is “Laura” with Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews. He shows a side you don’t normally see in his “horror” movies.
He had such a range of acting talents, that seemed sometimes stifled by being stereo-typed in horror films. Though he was the epitome of the classic villain, a true deranged mind, he was also a great dramatic actor.
In the stories by Edgar Allen Poe, I think he found a chemistry between the stories, writer and actor. He was able to bring the characters to life, and lead the movie watcher wanting to read the stories for themselves.
Vincent Price was truly a neglected performer by Hollywood. He was an amazing unsung talent!

  5. Carl says:

I looked up a list of Mr. Price’s films and it’s huge! I think I’d pick a more recent one, Edward Scissorhands. It’s not his biggest role but it’s very three-dimensional and the rest of the cast are very good too. Thanks for the chance to win these books.

  6. Joan O'Malley says:

Laura. Everyone assumes he did mostly horror pictures. It’s refreshing to see him in another genre that showcases his talent.

  7. MJ Moore says:

I’m a sucker for a good animated movie, and as a larger-than-life Disney villain, Vincent Price was superb! His Professor Ratigan pretty much stole the show in “The Great Mouse Detective” 🙂

  8. HR Bisson says:

The Tingler for me too! I remember watching it late one night about 30 years ago and it was SO scary to me I had nightmares for months. I enjoyed Vincent Price on the mUppet Show too.

  9. Adriana says:

Favorite Vincent Price movie? I love all of the ones I’ve seen but hands down it has to be The Great Mouse Detective. He was a perfect Ratigan. I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid and even replayed “The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind” song over and over on one of our sing a long tapes haha.

  10. Ruthann Little says:

The Pit and The Pendulum was my favorite and most memorable because I saw it together with my classmates at a theater. Was my first time in a theater.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Ruthann… Congratulations! You just won a copy of “Film-Star Portraits of the Fifties” courtesy of CMH and Dover Publications! I will email you in a minute… If you don’t get my email, please let me know by commenting here. Thanks!

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Ruthann, Just sent you a 2nd email about winning this contest. Please get back to us before Saturday Oct 31 12noon EST with your shipping information… If we don’t hear back from you by then, we will need to pick another winner in your place. Thanks!

  11. Rachel says:

My favorite Vincent Price film is the Great Mouse Detective. It’s the first movie of his I ever saw and it’s still a favorite film from my childhood. His character is one of the best Disney villains ever; the movie is extremely underrated.

  12. Kelly Wells says:

My faves of the genre that he was most famous for …House of Usher, Pit and the Pendulum, and The Raven. He was perfect casting for Edgar Allan Poe stories.

  13. Diana says:

House of Wax kept me up the first time I saw it, and I think even now when I watch it it still has a lasting impression.

  14. fisty says:

Tough choice, but I’ll err on the side of dashing with Dragonwyck. Such an interesting Gothic, with the always luminous Gene Tierney.

Though I do love his work in Corman’s Poe Cycle, and no one is quite as heinously evil as he is in Witchfinder General.

  15. Lisa Colangelo says:

The Comedy of Terrors- Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre. A triple bonus in my book!

  16. The Tingler. I love his creepy character and persona so much!

  17. Karin Melster says:

My favorite Vincent Price movie is House on Haunted Hill!! Scared me crazy as a kid & still does today!! Only thing scarier is Vincent in PINK TIGHTS!!,

  18. Vanessa W says:

House on Haunted Hill. I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid because I found the twist at the end so clever and surprising. It’s also my “go to” movie to show classic movie skeptics that older horror flicks had/have a lot going for them as well.

  19. diane says:

I always liked the House of Wax movie, because he was really bad
