“A Touch of Stardust” Book Giveaway (via Twitter March 2 – March 31)

This month, CMH will be giving away FOUR copies of A Touch of Stardust via TWITTER, courtesy of Doubleday Books…

This is the first time we’ll be giving away a novel, so let me tell you a little bit about it…   The story takes you behind the scenes of the filming of Gone With the Wind – as seen through the eyes of Carole Lombard’s (fictional) assistant, Julie Crawford.  In the ever-widening scope of this story, Julie is given a front-row seat to not one, but two of the greatest love affairs of that era: the undeniable on-screen chemistry between Scarlett and Rhett, and, off-screen, the deepening love between Carole and Clark. Amidst all that drama is the coming World War and the decisions to be made about her own yearnings and career.

That said, here’s how you can enter…

  1. Deana Kneen says:

Lucille Ball – Because all redheads need to stick together!

  2. Carl says:

Wow, that’s a tough question. It would have been wonderful to be part of the Chaplin era and work with a genius like him. I think Bogart would have been a fun guy to hang out with too, or maybe Errol Flynn for the party life. Let me know if this becomes a real possibility, I’m up for it.

  3. Theresa Carnes says:

If I could go back in time I would want to be James Cagneys assistant.

    • Annmarie Gatti says:

Hi Theresa, I haven’t seen your tweet yet, so this is just a friendly reminder to tweet the message so that you can qualify for the drawing. Thanks!

  4. Morgan Lockhart says:

Barbara Stanwyck because she was known for being really professional in everything she did. Also I love her!

  5. Joan O'Malley says:

Carol Lombard would be fun to work for. She was a down to earth Midwest gal and treated co workers and crew with respect. Plus she had a wicked sense of humor.

  6. Victoria Rendon says:

I would love to have been Joan Crawford’s assistant because she was such a wonderful actress it would have been amazing to see her perform in person and because she knew almost everyone in hollywood and on broadway you would be able to meet all sorts of stars.

  7. Chris Teel says:

Myrna Loy, because, uh, personal assistant.

  8. Dena says:

Lauren Bacall. She was so mysterious, but kept that little girl aura. She was sexy and smart and beautiful. Who wouldn’t want to be around that? You never know, maybe some would’ve rubbed off!

  9. Rachel says:

I’d want to be Clara Bow’s assistant because she was so good to everyone who worked for her; she hung out with them and considered them friends. I think she’d be a fun person to work for.

  10. Gail Pascaris says:

I’d loved to have worked with Barbara Stanwyck because I loved her style and class. I’d also would have loved to have worked with Joel McCrea because I think he’s adorable.

  11. Kari says:

I would definitely pick Judy Garland because she was so talented & amazing. She had a tough life & I would have tried to encourage her!

  12. David Hollingsworth says:

I think that I would choose to work for Katharine Hepburn, because she would teach me about independence, and being upfront with people, instead of being crushed by them. She was a brilliant actress, and one tough cookie.

  13. Edith says:

I would love to be Audrey Hepburn’s assistant because she is one of the most influencial actresses of all time. Her love of fashion made her an incredible fashion icon of the 1950’s and 1960’s, especially after the release of Truman Capote’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s. Audrey knew how to speak French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and English fluently, I could have learned different languages if I were her assistant and of course learned different fashion tips from her..

  14. Maureen Lenker says:

Cary Grant — he seems like he would’ve been a delight to work for because he was so charming, with such a wonderful sense of humor. Not to mention, the wide variety of projects/films you would’ve had a window into –everything from “The Philadelphia Story” to seeing Hitchcock at work on multiple films. Though I probably would’ve had to try really hard to avoid falling in love with him.

  15. Edi says:

Being Elizabeth Taylor’s assistance would be lovely. Her eyes were one of a kind, those violet eyes will never be seen again (sadly). She made one of my favorite perfumes, Violet Eyes. Loved her acting skills & her sense of style was always on point

  16. Diana Lamphiere says:

Norma Shearer. From her silent days through the Pre Code era, then her time as “The Queen of MGM,” working for Norma Shearer would have been working for Hollywood history.

  17. Adriana says:

I think I would have to say Ginger Rogers. She was a such a professional, tough little cookie with a wide variety of talents. To be able to be around her as she juggled all of her hats -dancer, actress, singer, painter, dairy owner even!- would be a delight and wonderful learning experience, I’m sure.

  18. Gina N. says:

If I could go back in time and get a job working as an assistant for a Golden Age Hollywood star, I would choose Joan Crawford who began as a chorus girl and later became an Academy Award winning movie star. She knew and worked with just about everyone in Hollywood and when Joan Crawford spoke everyone listened, including the major studios. So, I think it would be a real treat to work with her and hear all the legendary stories of old hollywood.

  19. Edith says:

I would love to be James Dean’s assistance. Even though his career was short, he left a huge legacy behind. He became a rebel without a cause. Died young but his legacy still lives on

  20. Lisa says:

Jean Arthur. I could listen to her voice all day long. I just love her voice.
