Following her hunting accident Susan learned how to drive a car with the use of hand controls.

Her funeral was attended by Robert Taylor, Ronald Colman, Zasu Pitts, Van Heflin, James Stewart, Laraine Day, Lana Turner, Mickey Rooney, Joan Crawford, Gene Kelly, George Murphy and Greer Garson (all of whom she worked with during her time at MGM Studios).

She was paralyzed in a hunting accident on January 1, 1945.
