In the early 1930s, after Mary Garden shared top billing with the Mills Brothers, Grace Moore insisted that a clause be added to her contract stating that "no colored act" would appear on the same bill with her. Rather than agree, Loew management cancelled her appearance.

In 1938 became the mentor and benefactor for Metropolitan soprano Dorothy Kirsten, in the latter's early career.

She was decorated as a chevalier of the Legion of Honor of France in 1939.
