MINI BIO:

Fresh-faced, personable dark-haired American western star with rich, slow-drawling voice, a former cowboy, rodeo champion (steer roping), and stunt rider. His career built up in John Ford westerns, but he didn't quite make it as a top star, reappearing in the 1960s as a leathery and weatherbeaten character star. The Academy Award that he won for his role in The Last Picture Show gained him a whole new series of varied and interesting roles. Died from a heart attack.

Ben Johnson Quotes:

[singing]
Sandy: I left my gal in Old Virginy...
Travis Blue: Trailin' behind the wagon trail...
Sandy: Another I left in Old Missoura...
Travis Blue: Trailin' behind the wagon trail...
Sandy, Travis Blue: [Together] Oh the Wite tops are a rollin', rollin', the big wheels keep a-turnin', and when I reach that promise land, for my gal I'll still be yearnin'.

[Bob and Harvey are watching Longworth whip Rio]
Harvey: We better get down there and do something.
Bob: Do something? Not this old horse; Longworth's got enough shotguns down there to start a war. Besides, this might help get some of that snot-nose out of him.

Capt. Thomas Thompson: This is no place for the woman of Victorio.
Chanzana: Chanzana is no more the woman of Victorio. He says to me, "Chanzana, you live long in soldiers' camp. Your mother was Mexican... we do not trust you. Go - stay with soldiers."
Capt. Thomas Thompson: Seems to me that puts you in a bad spot, lady. We don't trust you, either.
