Amy Veness was a fair-haired, pleasantly plump British actress with rosy cheeks and a beaming face. Her housekeepers were always well-scrubbed and usually ready with a cheery word of advice. She was middle-aged when she came to sound film roles, but stayed for 25 years, having begun her long stage career in the chorus of a George Edwardes' musical show in the 1890s.

Played many housekeepers and was notable in the Noel Coward adaptation of 'The Astonished Heart' and as Grandma Huggett in the Huggett trilogy.
