Sam De Grasse appeared in over 115 films and shorts from 1914 through 1930. He specialized in playing villains, most notably the villainous Prince John in the 1922 version of Robin Hood starring Douglas Fairbanks.

De Gasse was the uncle of notable cinematographer Robert De Grasse (Stage Door, The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, The Dick Van Dyke Show).
