MINI BIO:

Bewhiskered British comedy actor, bald since his twenties. He began as nosey types and men in the street, progressed to inept, would-be malevolent figures of authority and finally put on a little weight to arrive at eccentric blunderers and benevolent benefactors. Jeffries became a force in the British cinema of the early 1970s for his direction of children, but later ventures behind the camera were less successful. An inveterate scene-stealer in his peak period of comic invention.
