MINI BIO:

Heftily-built, grey-haired, black-eyebrowed, Sicilian character actor, popular in international roles after playing Largo (the villain) in the James Bond film Thunderball in 1965. After a promising start in post-war Italian films, he went to South America in 1949, and worked in Argentina and Brazil as a director for the theatre, films, and TV. A French film made in Brazil brought him back to Europe and he worked busily there, mostly as conspirators of one kind or another. He was most occupied on TV from 1977, subsequently gaining a nationwide following in Britain for his performance in The Borgias. Died from a heart attack.
