Legendary actress, Gail Russell, was born Elizabeth L. Russell on Sep 21, 1924 in Chicago, IL. Russell died at the age of 36 on Aug 27, 1961 in Los Angeles, CA .

MINI BIO:

Another of Hollywood's great tragedies: a haunting, beautiful limpid-eyed and gentle-seeming brunette who played helpless heroines beset by problems. In real life she was indeed beset, by the alcoholism that started at an early stage of her career and had ruined it by the early fifties. Found dead on the floor of her apartment "of natural causes." Married to Guy Madison 1949-1954.

In Italy, most of her films were dubbed by Lidia Simoneschi and Renata Marini. She was also dubbed once by Dhia Cristiani in Wake of the Red Witch (1948).

Suffered paralyzing stage fright during the filming of The Uninvited (1944) and suffered a nervous breakdown following its completion. In the role of Stella, the song "Stella by Starlight," which came from the film, is forever associated with Gail.

Attended Van Nuys High School and was in some of the same classes as actress Jane Russell.
