MINI BIO:

American supporting actor of Danish extraction whose hunted, mistrustful look and reliability of performance got him cast in some good thrillers, mostly as little men on the wrong side of the law, or with shady pasts. Also remembered as the barfly to whom Brian Donlevy tells the story in The Great McGinty (1940). The quality of his roles diminished after the 1940s - although he had a juicier part in 1957's The Wings of Eagles - and he was struck down by a heart attack at 54.
