MINI BIO:
Lanky, dark-haired, disgruntled-looking American actor-dancer who proved extremely tenacious career-wise after he came to Hollywood in 1935 with sister and stage partner Vilma. Specializing in "countrified characters," Ebsen faltered after war service, then found one profitable slot after another, first playing second-fiddle to Fess Parker in the Davy Crockett series, then on TV as head of The Beverly Hillbillies. At 64, he found audience favor again on TV as Barnaby Jones, a sort of elderly Will Rogers type sleuth. He was honored with one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Motion Pictures. On October 20, 1993, Ebsen received the Disney Legends Award for living up to the Disney principals of imagination, skill, discipline, craftsmanship and magic. Ebsen was never nominated for an Academy Award.
