Neat, sturdy American actor with graying hair and trim mustache, a former dance-band vocalist who turned to acting in his thirties. Became a more than useful support - for some, perhaps too useful! - to the stars of minor "A" budget studio (mainly Universal) films of the 1950s before drifting into television and a long run (as Ed Platt) as the spy chief in the comedy series Get Smart. Died from a heart attack.
